ISLAMABAD: Heavy rains slashed the twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad have created a flood situation in the areas.
The Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR) has issued a statement saying that the water level in Nalla Lei has risen due to heavy rains in Rawalpindi. Sector E-11 of Islamabad has also been affected by the rain.
According to the statement, Pakistan Army troops are assisting the civil administration in the rescue operation. According to ISPR, preparations have been made in case of any flood situation.
On the other hand, heavy rains in Rawalpindi and Islamabad made the situation alarming. A car sank due to heavy rain on the Peshawar interchange, however, the vehicle was later rescued.
Both cities received 122 mm of rain from night to morning. Roads, alleys, and sidewalks began to look like ponds. Vehicles were swept away in Sector E-11 of Islamabad. Videos of vehicles being swept away by rainwater in Sector E-11 went viral on social media. Heavy rains flood low-lying areas of Rawalpindi entered the houses.
The water level near Nalla Lei rose to 21 feet. Along with the civilian administration, Pakistan Army troops also rushed to the spot for rescue operations and the rescue work is still ongoing. Experts say that this is the biggest rain of the season in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on which caused havoc in the areas.
An alert was issued to nearby villages as several areas including Javed Colony, Nadeem Colony, Sadiqabad, and Dhok Kala Khan were flooded. Rainwater has entered the houses. The Meteorological Department said up to 125 mm of rain had been recorded, adding that more rains could force evacuation.
