ISLAMABAD: The hearing of the suo motu notice case on the elections of provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be held in the Supreme Court today.
According to details, yesterday Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial took notice of the delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A 9-member bench of the Supreme Court has also been formed to hear the matter.
Today at 2 o’clock in the afternoon in the Supreme Court, the hearing of the self-notice case will be held. The 9-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial will consist of Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Khan Afridi, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Jamal Khan Mandukhel.

The 9-member bench of the Supreme Court includes Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Mazhar Naqvi, and Justice Athar Minullah, who served as the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court in the past. A larger bench will decide on the election.
Interestingly, the constitutional responsibility of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies is being placed on both the Governor and the Election Commission. The Supreme Court will examine who is responsible for general elections according to the constitution.
