LAHORE: The Home Department of Punjab has imposed Section 144 in Lahore for seven days in what has been described as move to ensure the safety and security of the mega event of Pakistan Super League.
The Additional Chief Secretary Home, Shakeel Ahmed, issued a notification to all relevant authorities, directing a complete ban on protests, rallies, meetings, and sit-ins across the city during the PSL matches.
In a notification issued last evening, Shakeel Ahmed said “in exercise of powers vested in me under sec’ 01 144 (6) at the Coca o’ Criminal Procedure, 1898 do. hereby. prohibit all kinds of Assemblies. Gatherings. Sits•In, Rallies. Processions, Demonstrations, Salsas. Dhornas, Protests and such like other activities al the following areas:
I. Area from “Allan Mir Bridge to Istanbul Chowk on Mall Road (Shahrah-e- Ovoid e Azom). Lahore including its immediate vicinity. ii. Outside Punjab Civil Secretariat and its adjoining roads. iii. Main Boulevard Gulberg. Lahore.
The PSL matches are scheduled to take place from February 26, starting with the Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi.
The decision to impose Section 144 was made in light of previous security concerns during cricket matches in Pakistan.
The authorities have taken this step to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators alike.
