Christopher Nolan’s next project following Oppenheimer has been revealed: an ambitious adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey.
The celebrated British filmmaker, known for The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, and his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, will bring the epic Greek tale to life in collaboration with Universal Studios.
In a social media announcement on Monday, the studio described the film as a “mythic action epic shot across the world,” highlighting that it will employ groundbreaking IMAX film technology. The Odyssey is set to release in July 2026.
Nolan, renowned for working with a recurring ensemble of actors, is continuing the trend with this project.
Matt Damon, who recently played a key role in Oppenheimer, will join the cast alongside Anne Hathaway, known for her performances in The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, and Robert Pattinson, who starred in Nolan’s Tenet (2020).
The original Odyssey, attributed to the ancient poet Homer and composed in the 8th or 7th century BC, chronicles the epic journey of Odysseus. After the Trojan War, the hero spends a decade navigating perils to reunite with his wife, Penelope, and reclaim his place as the ruler of Ithaca.
