KARACHI: Richard Daniel, a resident of Mehmoodabad, has been living under constant fear since 2006 due to the actions of miscreants in his neighbourhood.
Hailing from the Christian community, Richard Daniel reveals that they have been targeted relentlessly by extremists on religious grounds, leading to the tragic death of his wife and unborn child.
Protesting outside the Karachi Press Club, Richard Daniel expressed his family’s ordeal, saying they have been seeking justice for many years without any success.
“We’ve visited numerous police stations and courts in pursuit of justice for my wife and unborn child’s murder, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” he shared with journalists.
Disturbingly, Richard Daniel revealed that his young daughter, Stephanie Daniel, is also living under constant threat. He disclosed that they have been subjected to violence by armed assailants, with their complaints to the police yielding no protection or action.
On July 16, 2023, while driving near Iqra University in Baloch Colony, the family faced a harrowing incident. Motorcycle-riding extremists attempted to halt their car and resorted to gunfire when they refused to stop. Despite immediately reporting the incident to the police, no action was taken against the attackers.
For over a year now, Richard Daniel has been forced to navigate this perilous situation with his young daughter, Stephanie. He voiced his frustration with the apparent reluctance of both the police and the courts to confront the extremist elements plaguing their lives.
In a desperate plea for help and security, Richard Daniel has appealed to the higher judiciary, government authorities, and security agencies.
The family hopes that their cries for assistance will not go unanswered, as they seek refuge from the ongoing threat posed by extremists.
