BEIJING: Chinese National Health Commission on Sunday registered 44 imported cases of new coronavirus during the past 24 hours.
According to the National Health Commission, five people have died from COVID-19 during the same period.
The total death toll from coronavirus in China now stands at 3,300, while the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is 81,439, according to the health commission.
The health commission’s report stated that a total of 75,448 people have recovered from the diseases. On Friday, 54 new coronavirus cases were reported in China, all of them imported.
The Chinese government had resumed the metro services in Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus was first detected two months ago.
The borders have also been reopened after being cut-off from the rest of the country for two months. Wuhan accounts for about 60% of China’s coronavirus cases, but they have fallen sharply in recent weeks, a sign that the measures are working.
China no longer has the largest number of coronavirus cases, it has been surpassed by Italy over 92,000 cases, and now the United States over 122,000 cases.
According to the Johns Hopkins University count, over 662,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the world and more than 30,000 people have died from coronavirus.
