Chilly winds have returned to Karachi as another cold wave is forecasted to hit the city starting January 24, with temperatures expected to drop to single digits during the last week of the month.
Westerly winds are likely to persist until January 23, according to the meteorological department. The advisory predicts “cold to very cold” and dry weather conditions in Karachi and other parts of Sindh under the influence of a westerly wave over the next few days.
The minimum temperature in Karachi, which was recorded at 14.5°C on Saturday night, is expected to drop to 11°C-13°C over the next two days. The relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 54%, while the maximum temperature reached 25.2°C with 22% relative humidity.
“Very cold weather is anticipated in the districts of Larkana, Tharparkar, and Umerkot,” the advisory stated, adding that moderate to dense fog in patches is likely during the night or early morning hours in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Dadu, Larkana, Khairpur, Tandojam, and nearby areas.
According to the Met Office, the lowest minimum temperature in Sindh was recorded in Mithi, where the mercury fell to 2°C. Other recorded minimum temperatures include Mohenjo Daro at 3°C, Sukkur at 7°C, Dadu and Nawabshah at 8°C, Thatta at 10°C, and Hyderabad at 11°C.
