As Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 draws near, chicken prices have surged massively across the country, while the price control committees remain helpless.
In Islamabad, the price of chicken has increased by almost Rs 100 in a couple of days. Live chicken is being sold at Rs 570 per kg, while chicken meat is Rs 1000 per kg.
In Lahore, the official price list sets chicken at Rs 595 per kg, but it is being sold for Rs 700 to Rs 750 per kg in the market. Boneless chicken prices have surged to Rs 1100 to Rs 1250 per kg. The official rate for live chicken is Rs 411 per kg, while in the Tollinton wholesale market, it is being sold for Rs 450 to Rs 470 per kg.
In Karachi, the official price of live chicken is set at Rs 420 per kg, while chicken meat is officially priced at Rs 650 per kg. However, in the market, live chicken is being sold at Rs 450 to Rs 500 per kg, while chicken meat prices range between Rs 690 and Rs 840 per kg.
Similarly, in Multan, chicken prices have increased by Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg. Contrary to official rates, chicken is being sold at Rs 640 to Rs 680 per kg. The wholesale price of live broiler chicken is set at Rs 399 per kg, while the retail price is Rs 413 per kg. The official rate for chicken meat is Rs 597 per kg.
In Peshawar, the price of live chicken has surged by Rs 40 in a single day, rising from Rs 500 to Rs 540 per kg.
Meanwhile, chicken meat has become Rs 70 more expensive, with its price jumping from Rs 800 to Rs 870 per kg.
Shopkeepers claim that they are getting live chicken at a much expensive rate and selling it at government rates results in a massive loss.
