Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities have decided to suspend mobile phone service on Muharram 9 and 10 (July 16, 17) in Peshawar due to security reasons related to Ashura processions.
Mobile phone signals would be turned off for two days in order to provide unwavering security at this time, Peshawar’s Capital City Police Officer Qasim Ali told media.
He said that as processions and special events are being held throughout Pakistan, including Peshawar, to honor Hazrat Imam Hussain’s death, the decision has been made to avoid any untoward happenings during these days.
On account of Ashura 2024, the federal government has declared public holidays for Muharram 9 and 19, which fall on July 16 and 17.
