Careem, the ride-hailing app, has rolled out its new feature, Flexi Ride, enabling customers to bid on and select their preferred price, as announced by the company. Currently available in Islamabad, Multan, and Faisalabad, the service has plans for expansion to Lahore and Karachi.
Upon booking, customers are presented with an average fare, granting them the option to adjust it. Careem explained in a press release, “The bid will be sent to multiple Captains in the area, allowing them to accept the ride or send a counter-bid. Once the price matches, a Captain will be assigned to the customer, beginning their journey.”
Imran Saleem, General Manager of Ride Hailing at Careem Pakistan, expressed that the introduction of Flexi Rides provides customers with the freedom to set their own fares while ensuring an unparalleled experience and utmost safety. He further stated, “Similarly, this will enable the Captains to choose the fares on their own rides, ultimately resulting in a positive impact on their overall earnings. We believe this flexibility will resonate with both our customers and Captains, making their journey more convenient and enjoyable.”
Careem, based in Dubai and operational in over 100 cities across 12 countries in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, became a wholly-owned Uber subsidiary following a $3.1 billion acquisition in January 2020. Initially launching in Pakistan in 2015, Careem suspended its food delivery service in the country in June 2022, citing unfavorable economic conditions.
