The Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi has extended the interim bail of Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, until June 12 in the November 26 protest cases.
According to details, hearings were held for 29 cases related to the November 26 protest against Bushra Bibi. Cases against Bushra Bibi have been registered in Rawalpindi, Taxila, and Attock. Bushra Bibi is currently serving a 7-year prison sentence in Adiala Jail in connection with the £190 million case.
It is worth noting that the cases related to the November 26, 2024 protest stem from the “Final Call” march organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad, which was led by Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The protest was held to demand the release of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the restoration of the party’s electoral mandate, and the reversal of the 26th Constitutional Amendment. During the protest, violent incidents and clashes with law enforcement occurred, leading to multiple legal cases filed against Bushra Bibi and several other PTI leaders.
PTI had called on its workers from across the country to gather for a protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad on November 24, 2024. The protest was led by Bushra Bibi and Ali Amin Gandapur, who had stepped forward to keep party activities alive following Imran Khan’s imprisonment.
The purpose of the protest was to demand Imran Khan’s release and to voice opposition to government policies. However, intense clashes broke out in Islamabad’s Red Zone during the protest, in which law enforcement agencies reportedly used tear gas, rubber bullets, and, according to PTI leaders, live ammunition. There were also fatalities. PTI claimed that several of its workers were killed during the protest, while the government dismissed this as propaganda.
Numerous cases have been registered against Bushra Bibi in connection with the November 26 protest—reportedly around 30, according to various sources. She faces charges including terrorism, disturbing public order, attacking police, abduction, damaging government property, and murder.
