Multiple media reports suggest that Bushra Bibi demanded a public apology from Maryam Nawaz Sharif within the next seven days to avoid any legal actions against her.
It may be recalled that Maryam Nawaz had accused the former first lady of receiving bribes, including a diamond set in return for using her influence during the tenure of the PTI government.
The Chief Organizer of PML-N had alleged that Farah Gogi, a close friend of Bushra Bibi, remained actively involved in running the day-to-day affairs of Usman Buzdar-led Punjab government and would also receive bribe for official transfer and postings of the officials. The legal notice sent on Thursday refers to a speech made by Maryam Nawaz on May 01, 2023, during which she claimed that Bushra Bibi had received a 3 karats ring for signing a file.
Bushra Bibi declared Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s statement as a part of a vilification propaganda campaign aimed to harm, defame and denigrate her and her family with criminal objects to benefit the political opponents of her husband (Imran Khan).
The legal notice also warns Maryam Nawaz Sharif that her action is a violation of law and can be punished under the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, with up to 5 years imprisonment for intentionally and willfully defaming Bushra Bibi. The notice also mentioned that the transcript of the video clip of the PML-N Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz’s address to the Labour Day convention in Lahore has been attached. A relevant video clip of Maryam Nawaz has also been attached.
The notice states that the accusations are false, slanderous, and defamatory and have caused immense mental agony and distress to Bushra Bibi and her family. Therefore, she demands a public apology from Maryam Nawaz Sharif within seven days, failing which she will initiate legal action against her.
