A clip from an international web series titled ‘Our Big Punjabi Family’ featuring Bushra Ansari has gone viral on social media, sparking a huge debate.
It all started with a scene in which Ansari can be seen referring to a transgender character using ‘they/them’ pronouns.
Ansari referred to a girl ( who is transgender in the play) as they. She said, ‘call her either “they” or “them”. Although the drama is an international web series Ansari’s dialogues were enough to ignite controversy over LGBTQ representation in Pakistan.

After this, Ansari is being criticised for allegedly promoting an LGBTQ agenda contrary to Islamic values.
With an IMDB rating of 9.2, ‘Our Big Punjabi Family’ is a story about Sitara and her husband, who are left penniless by a poor investment, who come to live with their Punjabi relatives, redefining family values while preserving their identity.
