Budget 2020-21 to be approved in NA session today

ISLAMABAD: A session of the National Assembly will be held today to approve the budget for the financial year 2020-21.

According to details, the session will be held at Parliament House at 11:00 am. During the session, the Federal Minister of Industries and Production Muhammad Hammad Azhar will present the budget for the financial year 2020-21 for approval.

The finance bill will be placed before the legislature for adoption during the day proceedings. The proceedings of the House today are bound to be stormy because the opposition has made up its mind to agitate the increase in the fuel prices and price hike of other commodities before the finance bill’s presentation under the instruction of the leader of opposition Shehbaz Sharif.

Earlier on Sunday, all the major opposition parties unanimously rejected Budget 2020. According to the opposition, the budget has failed to address economic challenges and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government has been unable to provide relief to the general public.

In an attempt to unravel “deception in the budget”, the opposition leaders maintained that “fears of the people have been proven correct even before the ‘no new tax’ budget has been voted on. The massive and oppressive increase in petrol prices has laid bare the fact that a series of real mini-budgets will start appearing almost every month.”
