The body of a female schoolteacher who had booked an online cab to reach her school was recovered from a stormwater drain, while the cab driver remains mysteriously missing.
The incident occurred near Bhosa Godown in Rawalpindi, the twin city of the federal capital. Authorities identified the deceased as Anum Bashir, a resident of Afshan Colony, Rawalpindi.
According to police, Anum hailed from Mandi Bahauddin’s town of Mandi Malakwal and was employed as a teacher at a private school. Her body was identified by her family at the hospital, who declined to pursue legal proceedings or request a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Anum had booked an online cab service to commute to her workplace in Islamabad.
However, due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning, water from a storm drain had flooded Lane 4 of Range Road. It is believed that the vehicle she was traveling in was swept away by the water.
Anum’s body was later recovered from a drain near Bhosa Godown. The car was found stuck in a narrow street adjacent to a drain in the Westridge area, but the driver, identified as Hasnain, remains untraceable.
Police contacted the vehicle’s registered owners, who confirmed that Hasnain was operating it as a cab driver. An investigation is currently underway, and efforts to locate the missing driver are ongoing.
