Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that India’s weaponization of water is dangerous, such aggression cannot be allowed at any cost.
Addressing the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he congratulates President Ilham Aliyev on the successful hosting of the ECO summit.
He said that India behaved irresponsibility following an unfortunate incident in occupied Kashmir. The Indian actions were aimed at undermining regional peace. The Pakistani forces responded to the provocation with exemplary courage and professionalism.
The Prime Minister said that India’s weaponization of water is extremely worrying. The International Court of Arbitration has rejected India’s actions in its decision. India’s violation of the Indus Waters Treaty is unacceptable. Water is a lifeline for the 240 million people of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister said categorically that India cannot be allowed to follow this dangerous path under any circumstances. The Indian move will be tantamount to aggression against the people of Pakistan.
He said that as Chairman EC, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart has rendered important services. Technological changes are taking place rapidly in the global scenario.
“A new era of increasing interdependence and expansion of knowledge is beginning. Technological development is inevitable for regional cooperation and shared prosperity,” he added.
The Prime Minister said that he is proud to participate in collective efforts with member countries in the process of development. The theme of the summit, Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future, is very appropriate and timely. ECO member countries are also facing the profound impacts of climate change. Melting glaciers, extreme heat, devastating floods and other challenges are facing them.
Shahbaz Sharif said that environmental challenges have put the food security and livelihoods of millions of people at risk. Pakistan is among the 10 countries most affected by climate change. In 2022, Pakistan faced devastating floods. More than 33 million people were affected, property was severely damaged. Flash floods also cause heartbreaking destruction.
