KARACHI: Pakistan has witnessed a record jump in COVID-19 infections and deaths, as a blatant violation of the government’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) continued despite repeated warnings by the relevant authorities.
According to details, business activities, including restaurants, in rural areas of Karachi are not implementing the government’s devised SOPs. Such businesses located in West, Korangi, East, and especially Malir districts are openly violating SOPs.
Most of the staff members in these food outlets are seen without having facemasks that are a sheer violation of SOPs in the face of rising cases of coronavirus in the city.
The government had advised the food outlets to ensure social distancing while making seating arrangements for the customers. However, no such thing happened even in most hotels and restaurants.
A large number of customers visit these hotels and restaurants but almost none of them have made proper arrangements to disinfect their premises time and again to provide a safe and secure environment for them.
In Karachi’s rural areas, the Assistant Commissioners, police and District Administration have allegedly received a huge bribe in this regard, which could lead to a rapid spread of the coronavirus.
It is worth mentioning here that the government had published large numbers of advertisements in the newspapers in which it provided detailed guidelines to the food outlets, hotels and restaurants to avoid spread of coronavirus among the customers.
