Popular South Korean girl group BLACKPINK has yet again hit a new height of success with a billion views mark on YouTube, a video-sharing app.
BLACKPINK’s music video BOOMBAYAHA became the first K-pop debut music video in history to surpass 1.5 billion views on YouTube. BOOMBAYAH is the third music video of BLACKPINK to achieve this milestone, after DDU-DU DDU-DU and Kill This Love.
With this achievement, BLACKPINK became the first artist in K-pop history to hit 1.5 billion views with three music videos. BOOMBAYAH is the track song of BLACKPINK’s debut album Square one which was released on August 8, 2016, and it took more than six years to hit the 1.5 billion views mark.

For those unversed, BLACKPINK is the world’s famous South Korean female band of four members consisting of four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa. The group debuted in 2016 with their first album Square One under the music label YG Entertainment.
Blackpink has broken numerous online records throughout its career. Their music videos for “Kill This Love” (2019) and “How You Like That” (2020) each set a record for the most-viewed music video within the first 24 hours of release, with the latter breaking three and setting two Guinness World Records.
They are the first music group and Korean female act to have five music videos accumulate one billion views each on YouTube; the most-subscribed music act on the platform and the first to reach over 80 million subscribers; and the most-followed girl group on Spotify.
