ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday launched its “Bijli Sahulat Package,” a three-month relief plan from December 2024 to February 2025 that aims to address winter electricity demand in order to maintain economic growth.
As per the statement issued by the Power Division, the base rate of Rs26.07 per unit would be applicable on consumption of electricity that exceeds historical levels. The reduced rates will apply to commercial, industrial and domestic consumers throughout the winter period to balance the seasonal demand and stimulate economic activities.
The package states that the advantage of lower rates would only apply to the first 25% of units above the benchmark and excess consumption above this level would be charged at the government’s prevailing rates. An 18-37% discount on the prevailing power rate will be given to industries consuming more electricity than before.
“The government remains committed to promoting increased industrial and commercial activity as a growth driver,” the statement continued.
Households will also be able to take advantage of cheaper rates, which could make electricity consumption a viable alternative for heating needs instead of usual gas.
The Power Division said it would strive to unveil new schemes to ensure maximum exploitation of electricity usage for higher growth in Pakistan’s economy.
