Known for his aesthetic direction, Bollywood famous director Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his Netflix series debut with the star-studded ‘Heeramandi’.
Despite a star-studded cast and high budget, Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi is just like a puzzle with many missing pieces.
While going through public reviews, many of the users thought the makers should’ve done some research on Lahore, Muslims, and especially the ‘Urdu’ language. For instance, a Muslim woman’s head is covered when she dies and is taken to the graveyard, Lajjo’s wasn’t. The audience could see some spelling errors in Urdu, very basic ones.
Alamzeb (aka Alam)’s character which was the most important one could not do justice to the role. Throughout the whole series, Alam was expressionless.
Alamzeb ruined the show very beautifully, sometimes nepotism (the actress who played Alam is the real niece of Sanjay Leela Bhansali) ruined collective efforts.
A lot of focus on the grandeur but a lack of research on the city’s backdrop and reality. Just felt it was too over the top. The real essence was missing throughout the series. Inshort, few scenes are good, otherwise, the series is boring.
Moral of the story? Never try to make movies or shows in the historical places of other countries, especially without homework.
However, other than that, Sanjay Leela Bhansali outdid everything. The plot, actress, storyline, dresses and jewelry, and the set.
‘Heeramandi’ is streaming on Netflix.
