LAHORE: Proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Chief Saad Hussain Rizvi was released on Saturday from Kot Lakhpat jail after six-month detention, according to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Lahore.
The Deputy Commissioner’s order comes days after the Lahore High Court had declared the detention of Rizvi illegal, approving a petition filed by Rizvi’s uncle against his continued incarceration.
According to the notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Omar Sher, a copy of which is available with MM News, Saad Hussain Rizvi was being ordered to be released immediately in compliance with the order of Lahore High Court (LHC).
The notification stated that Saad Rizvi was arrested on April 12, 2021 from Grand Battery Stop, Multan Road, Lahore under section 11 EEE of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 and Article 10 (4) and the Constitution of Pakistan 1973.
It further stated that a letter was issued on October 2 by the chairman of the Federal Revenue Board ordering an extension of one month in the custody of Hafiz Saad Rizvi. After which, on October 9, the Federal Revenue Board held a video meeting at the Supreme Court Branch Registry in which the case was disposed off.
“Further, in Writ Petition No. 48765/2021, the Lahore High Court passed the order no October 1 and the petition was accepted with the directions to release Saad Rizvi from jail if not required to be detained in some other cases,” the notification added.
The notification has been forwarded to to Additional Chief Secretary Home Department Lahore, Capital Police Officer Lahore, Deputy Inspector General of Police Lahore, SP Central Jail Kot Lakhpat and Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi.
On October 1, the Lahore High Court (LHC) declared the second detention of Saad Rizvi illegal and ordered his release. He was arrested after TLP’s central council warned the government that if it did not expel the French ambassador from the country, they would march towards Islamabad.
