In a startling development, a police officer in Pakistan’s federal capital, Islamabad, has come under fire for openly threatening kite flyers with severe punishment, including physical torture and the demolition of their homes.
Sub-Inspector Ashfaq Waraich, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Secretariat Police Station, issued a harsh warning in a video that quickly went viral on social media. In his controversial statement, Waraich declared that he would personally punish kite flyers by beating them with shoes and even register cases against their fathers. He went on to threaten the demolition of homes belonging to those caught engaging in kite flying.

The officer further warned that any child caught flying kites using metal wires would face harsh consequences, reiterating that their fathers would also be held legally accountable.
His remarks sparked widespread criticism, with many questioning the legality of his threats. Legal experts swiftly responded, condemning Waraich’s statements as unlawful and suggesting that he could face both disciplinary action and legal consequences for his remarks.
