In another tragic incident of violence against women in Pakistan, a young newlywed woman was burned alive on suspicion of an extramarital affair in Bahawalnagar, it emerged on Wednesday.
The victim, Saba from Faqirwali, had entered into a court marriage with Ali Raza, a resident of Habib Town. The couple lived at Chak 50/4-R in Haroonabad, according to police.
Ali Raza allegedly physically abused Saba and accused her of infidelity. The police reported that during an argument, he tortured her and ultimately burned her alive. On July 28, Raza informed his in-laws that Saba had left following an argument. The next day, her charred body was discovered in a field.
Raza confessed to his in-laws that he had burned Saba alive. A case was then filed against him and unidentified accomplices. During the investigation, Raza stated that he killed his wife for “honor” and revealed that his sister and brother-in-law were also involved in the murder.
Local police informed the media that Raza accused Saba of having relationships with other people, severely tortured her, set her on fire, and disposed of her body in the field.
