Dr. Ahmed Shaheer Oghlu, the head of Azerbaijan’s prominent think tank Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, has issued a bold and unwavering statement in support of Pakistan, in response to recent Indian threats and boycott calls.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Oghlu responded strongly to Indian calls for economic sanctions and tourism boycotts against Azerbaijan due to its vocal support for Pakistan.
He stated, “Those threatening Azerbaijan with sanctions and travel boycotts should read history carefully. Our nation has never bowed to external pressure. We stand firmly with our brother Pakistan on a just and principled stance. No political threat can shake our commitment.”
Dr. Oghlu added that Azerbaijan’s support for Pakistan is rooted in values, not commercial interests, and stressed that “Our friendship is not transactional. Every boycott only strengthens our resolve. We are a nation that defends both its economy and political independence.”
Acknowledging possible economic setbacks, he said, “Fewer tourists may come, and some rice exports might halt, but dignity and brotherhood will always remain. If we had abandoned Pakistan, we wouldn’t have been able to face ourselves. Long live Azerbaijan!”
This powerful message has been widely appreciated in Pakistan, highlighting Azerbaijan’s solidarity with its South Asian ally amid rising regional tensions.
