ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator Azam Swati on Monday filed a petition in the Supreme Court against his arrest and subsequent ‘torture’ by Federal Investigation Authority (FIA).
As per details, the PTI senator filed a petition in the Supreme Court against FIA, saying sanctity of his house was violated during his arrest.
Despite being a senator, a member of the upper chamber of parliament, he said, “I was beaten in front of my family.”
Azam Swati asserted that when he was put in the automobile by the FIA authorities, his face was covered with a cloth.
The PTI leader was detained on October 13 by the FIA cybercrime unit following a contentious tweet critical of government institutions.
The suit also said that his torture while being held ‘naked’ was unconstitutional.
An Islamabad court already rendered a written decision about PTI senator Azam Swati’s post-arrest bail in a case involving his divisive tweets.
The court noted in its written verdict that “the charge of instigation for sedition deserves more inquiry under the relevant articles.” The court stated that following the gathering of evidence during the trial, “the intention and objective of the petitioner’s tweet will prove.”
