Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has revealed that a formal invitation was extended to the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Chief Whip for a meeting with a visiting U.S. congressional delegation—but both leaders declined to attend.
Addressing media queries, Sadiq emphasized that those who seek engagement with international powers should also be prepared for constructive dialogue. He confirmed that official documentation exists proving the invitation was extended to the PTI leadership.
“I have the official record. If you seek external support, you must also participate in diplomatic discourse,” said Sadiq.
During the meeting with the U.S. delegation, it was noted that all three visiting Congress members clarified that they had no role in Pakistan’s internal politics. Interestingly, the PTI founder Imran Khan’s name was not mentioned at any point during the talks, according to the Speaker.
Sadiq reiterated his readiness to facilitate political negotiations between the government and opposition but stressed that the process requires mutual willingness.
“Clapping requires both hands. I can’t repeatedly push for talks if one side is not willing to sit,” he remarked.
