Awareness on environmental protection is ‘need of the hour’: Zartaj Gul

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul Wazir has said that raising awareness on environmental protection in Pakistani society is a need of the hour.

On a social media website Twitter, Zartaj Gul Wazir said that Pakistan is one of the most insecure countries in the world in terms of climate change.

The minister further said that serious steps would be taken to protect the environment across the country from adverse climate change which has become a necessity with the passage of time.

It was important to create awareness in the society on climate change and the overall response to climate change depends on the change in social attitudes, she added.

Earlier, she said the present government was giving priority to environment, health and education sectors as per party’s manifesto. “The incumbent government had been very successful in achieving its objectives in this regard.

Zartaj Gul said industrialists and businessmen had played a pivotal role in creating awareness on environment and concepts like green productivity.

Rapid deforestation in the country and untreated waste of industries had substantially polluted the soil, water and air and damaged the environment, she added.
