RAWALPINDI: Illegal vehicles market has reopened in Rawalpindi’s Rehmanabad due to alleged incompetence and involvement of district administration.
According to details, the illegal market was earlier closed on the orders of the higher authorities, however, the market has been reopened after the alleged involvement of the Rawalpindi administration.
Due to the large number of vehicles parked, the flow of traffic has been disrupted and pedestrians faced severe difficulties. Sources have revealed that officials of the district administration are receiving a huge bribe on daily basis.
Citizens have appealed to higher authorities to take action against the illegal vehicles market and the corrupt officials of the Rawalpindi administration.
Earlier, the PTI-led federal government had issued strict directives to crack down on the smuggling of non-duty paid vehicles and contraband items. However, they still flow in with ease from the Chaman crossing on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The vehicles are then sneaked into the country and sold at below-market prices without payment of duty or customs. State officials say the illegal market causes billions of rupees in loss to the national exchequer annually.
