As Ramadan commenced, a surge of people hurried to withdraw money for shopping and household expenses, resulting in numerous automated teller machines (ATMs) in Karachi and other parts of Pakistan running out of cash.
Long queues were observed outside ATMs on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, which is typically a day off.
The cash shortage left many customers frustrated, forcing them to visit multiple ATMs in search of cash. Adding to the concerns, more ATMs are expected to run out of cash, as banks will remain closed for public dealing on Monday due to Zakat deduction.
It’s important to note that Pakistan observed the first fast on Sunday as the Ramadan crescent was not sighted across the country on Friday.
