LAHORE: At least two people died and another 20 sustained injuries in a blast in Lahore’s Anarkali area, according to a statement issued from the Lahore deputy commissioner (DC) Umer Sher Chattha’s office.
The statement said the DC has called a bomb disposal squad to investigate the incident Windows of nearby shops and buildings were left shattered by the explosion and motorcycles damaged.
Rescue officials and other law enforcement agencies have reached the site, while the injured people were transferred to nearby hospital for medical treatment. The area has been cordoned off and police officials are gathering evidence from the scene.
Mayo Hospital officials said three people are in critical condition, with the doctors trying to save their lives. The police suspect an explosive device was placed on a motorcycle. “We would only be able to confirm after the final investigation,” the Lahore police chief said.
