KARACHI: At least three people died in rain-related incidents in Karachi and Thatta after heavy rain lased out various parts of Sindh today (Friday).
According to details, two teenagers were killed after being struck by a bolt of lightning in Karachi’s Malir district. A woman in Thatta’s Idrees Ghubwani village died due to same reasons, authorities confirmed.
Pakistan Meteorological Department informed that the highest amount of rainfall, in Karachi, was recorded in Surjani Town (170mm).
Meanwhile, 88mm was recorded at North Karachi, 85.6mm at Nazimabad, 44.5mm at PAF Masroor Base, 20.5mm at Landhi, 21.4mm at University Road, 28.5mm at Saadi Town, and 16mm at Saddar.
Several feet of rainwater entered shops in Orangi Town’s Aligarh Market, while rainwater started stagnating in streets in Shadman Town and also entered the Sakhi Hassan Graveyard’s surroundings.
On the other hand, heavy rain brought the power system to a halt in Hyderabad. In this regard, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) spokesperson said that at least 60 feeders had tripped in the city’s Lateefabad and Qasimabad neighbourhoods.
Earlier today (Friday), the Met Office had forecast rains across Sindh — including Karachi — from Friday till Monday. According to PMD, the metropolis may receive 20-30mm of rainfall.
