The Sindh government has formally requested the federal Ministry of Interior to suspend mobile and internet services on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, citing security concerns during Ashura processions.
In an official letter sent by the Sindh Home Department, the provincial government has recommended shutting down cellular and internet services along procession routes and in sensitive areas to prevent any potential untoward incidents.
The letter proposes temporary service suspensions in various districts across the province during Ashura processions.
The Ministry of Interior has been asked to make a decision in accordance with prevailing security protocols and provide necessary communication.
It is worth noting that each year during the month of Muharram, mobile services are temporarily suspended in parts of the country to mitigate the risk of terrorism and the spread of provocative content.
