The Punjab government has taken a significant step towards integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into school curriculums across the province, aiming to introduce students to this cutting-edge technology.
According to the School Education Department, the initiative will begin with the establishment of the first AI lab at Government Kinnaird Girls High School on Empress Road in Lahore.
The decision comes as part of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s efforts to modernize education infrastructure. She is scheduled to inaugurate the AI lab next week, signaling a commitment to advancing technological education in Punjab’s schools.
Earlier developments included the establishment of a satellite internet lab at Government Girls High School Model Town, where AI has already been introduced as part of the curriculum. The success of this pilot program has paved the way for expanding similar labs to schools across other districts in Punjab.
It should be noted that Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has formed a Policy Committee that will lead the policy consultation process and finalize the draft of the National AI Policy.
