Pakistan’s star athlete Arshad Nadeem made history on Thursday night by securing the country’s first Olympic medal since 1992, earning top podium finish in the men’s javelin throw competition in Paris.
The last time Pakistan clinched an Olympic medal was in 1992 in Barcelona, where the country took home a bronze in field hockey.
Nadeem secured the top spot with 92.97 meters throw, shattering Olympic record. India’s Neeraj Chopra secured the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters. A. Peters of Grenada won the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54 meters.

It is worth mentioning that Nadeem’s throw earned Pakistan its first-ever individual gold medal, its first medal in track and field, and marked only the second time a South Asian athlete has secured a podium finish in track and field.
Earlier, Nadeem qualified for the final round of the competition this week with an 86.59-meter throw in the qualifying round.
Nadeem, a nine-time international medalist and four-time gold medalist, came fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Last year, he won a silver medal at the World Championships and claimed gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with an impressive throw of 90.18 meters.
