LONDON: Pakistani vocalist Arooj Aftab is all set to become the first Pakistani artist to perform at the American art and music festival Coachella.
Coachella is one of the most popular music festivals in the world. It will begin on April 15 and run till April 24, 2021, in California. Billie Eilish, Kanye West and Harry Styles are some of the top names who will headline this year’s edition.
The festival line-up also includes singers Arlo Parks and Phoebe Bridgers, Italian Eurovision Song Contest winners Maneskin, rappers Megan Thee Stallion and 21 Savage as well as hip hop duo Run The Jewels and DJ Fatboy Slim. Tickets for the first weekend are sold out, organisers said, with pre-sales for the second weekend starting on Friday.
The Mohabbat singer took to Instagram to share a screenshot of the Coachella lineup to break the news. “See you Coachella both weekends and I am ready to partyyyyy,” Arooj captioned the post.
The news comes soon after her revelation that she will be making her first Coke Studio appearance this season.
Soon after her announcement, many took to Aftab’s post and congratulated her. Faisal Kapadia, Mahira Khan, Meesha Shafi among others extended heartfelt wishes to the musician.
In November 2020, Arooj became the first Pakistani artist to be nominated in the Best New Artist category at the 64th Grammy Awards. The event is set to take place on January 31, 2022.
