ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar on Monday strictly condemned reports claiming the army’s backdoor contacts with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for making any intervention into political matters.
Speaking to a private news channel, the military’s spokesperson responded to the speculations raised by the PDM leadership and the recent wave of hearsay regarding the matter. He rejected rumours of having any backdoor contacts with the PDM and added that armed forces have nothing to do with politics.
“Army has nothing to do with politics and those maligning its role in this regard are advised to abstain from making such statements. Otherwise, those people making accusations should present evidence against their claims,” he said.
He said the army is busy discharging its constitutional responsibilities and urged to avoid raising allegations without proof. He said the army had the biggest responsibility of security and safeguarding of the motherland and was busy dispensing its duties in this regard. He categorically denied any indirect contact with any political leader
“Please do not drag into this. It’s inappropriate to comment on political matters and linking it to the Army without any proof or research. All such hearsay must come to an end now.”
Regarding the revelations made by EU DisinfoLab, Major General Babar Iftikhar said that Pakistan has always tried to expose the nefarious designs of India.
Responding to a question, he said that Pakistani mountaineer Ali Sadpara is a national hero and asset. “We pray for the safety of all the mountaineers who went missing during their K2 climb,” he added.
