KHAIRPUR: Abduction of a female student of the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) was foiled by fellow students and some other people present at the spot, police reported on Thursday.
According to details, seven men stopped a university bus at gunpoint on the national highway near Ranipur and attempted to kidnap a female student.
However, her class-fellows resisted his attempt which led to a brawl. Almost seven students sustained injuries while putting up the resistance, a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson claimed key suspect Safdar Wasan was himself a student of the varsity, adding that the accused along with his friends tried to kidnap the female student at gunpoint.
Meanwhile, the students have blocked the national highway in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. The police have shifted the injured students to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The police spokesperson has claimed that efforts were underway to arrest the suspects with security posts set up in the area to intercept them.
In December 2019, an unconscious female student was luckily saved from being kidnapped at the gate of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU).
The MA final-year student was standing at the gate of the university with some of her class-fellows when a car pulled up and its occupant, stated to belong to an influential family of Khairpur, tried to drag the woman into the vehicle.
However, her class-fellows resisted his attempt which led to a brawl. The woman shouted for help and tried to escape, falling unconscious during the course of the struggle. Her hue and cry also drew attention of the university’s security guards, who rushed to her rescue.
The would-be abductor drove away. The students present at the scene claimed that the suspect was also a class-fellow of the woman. They believed that he tried to take her away from her friends “out of jealousy”.
