‘Argylle’ and ‘Madame Web’, two Hollywood star-studded movies, are major releases in Pakistani cinemas and I had a chance to watch both of these movies this weekend.
Now let’s talk about how both of the movies kept the audience hooked until the last moment. And which movie I would recommend watching to save money and time?
Argylle
I went to watch the movie for Henry Cavill but started taking the plot more seriously because of Matthew Vaughn’s work in his directional new spy film.
The movie was more than Henry Cavill’s portrayal of a tall and charming spy with that doting British accent.
Apple’s $200-million star-studded spy thriller centers on a detached female author who is drawn into the world of spies and espionage after she realizes that a new spy novel she is writing resembles real-world events.
Most of the movie leads the audience to believe it is one thing, when it is another, keeping the audience on a cliffhanger until the first half.
The movie besides having a star-studded cast had a cliche plot, great fighting scenes, and most importantly it kept the audience hooked until the end.
Madame Web
Any major superhero film especially one produced under the radar of Marvel eventually becomes a hit in Pakistan.
Madame Web is a star-studded movie featuring Dakota Johnson she plays the role of a New York paramedic who develops psychic powers.
She seemingly took a wise approach and helps those whom she sees in her future prediction and tries to change it which somehow does not make a huge impact.
The film introduced a trio of supporting characters (played by Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Sydney Sweeney, now one of the top stars her age).
The movie set up a future in which the three could have become a team of Spider-Women under the guiding eye of Johnson’s Cassie Webb. But it’s in the future, it did not happen in this movie, hinting at a sequel or spin-off already.
The movie had it all; a star-studded cast; and good acting but somehow it was not enough. It seems like the makers tried to make a movie that was a different type of superhero movie, but failed.
There was a story but no plot, at times I almost fell asleep while watching it. I mean if you know the future, skip it, or else for help from cops.
I’d rather watch Argylle again if I had to but not Madame Web.
