LARKANA: A four-day anti-polio campaign is scheduled to begin in Larkana today.
According to details, more than 306850 children up to five years of age would be administered anti-polio drops during the four-day campaign starting from today.
District Health Officer (DHO) Larkana Dr. Syed Amjad Shah in this regard said that about 815 mobile teams have been formed which would visit all the areas of the district to administer the polio vaccine to the children.
Dr. Syed Amjad Shah said that the polio teams would manage to cover all children including at Railway Station, Bus stops and various markets of the district during the four-day anti-polio campaign.
He urged the parents to be cooperative with the mobile polio teams to make the national anti-polio drive success. DHO also urged the religious scholars, elected representatives, NGOs and local community to make this drive successful by involving their all-possible steps so that the children of the whole district could be immunized against this crippling disease.
Earlier, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had reported two more new cases of polio, jumping the total number of polio cases that emerged in 2020 across the country to 31.
Health authorities said a three-old-girl, Fareeha who belongs to Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, contracted poliovirus. While the other has been detected in a three-year-old girl, a resident of Morro in Naushahro Feroze Sindh.
Poliovirus, which is at the edge of eradication in Pakistan have at least 100 cases that exclude vaccine-derived cases being reported across the country. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leads the tally with over 50 cases.
