LAHORE: The ‘Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to take action against its founder member and prominent lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan for his remarks against Arm Chief General Bajwa.
On Tuesday, lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan, while talking to reporters about how the charges against Nawaz Sharif, his brother Shehbaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz had been dropped, had alleged that the Chief of the Army Staff General Bajwa committed a criminal act of great severity by facilitating the Sharif family’s acquittal.
Reacting on Aitzaz Ahsan’s statement, Punjab PPP acting president Rana Farooq Saeed had accused him of becoming part of Imran Khan’s anti-democracy agenda.
“Aitzaz Ahsan has become a full part of Imran Khan’s conspiracy to derail democracy in the country [by stating that the army chief has rescued the Sharifs from conviction in cases],” Rana Farooq Saeed was quoted as saying.
Party sources on Friday said they had convened a meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) to table a resolution against Aitzaz Ahsan, seeking to suspend his membership and issuing him a show-cause notice.
Party sources further said that the decision to take action against Aitzaz Ahsan was decided on the directives of Asif Ali Zardari.
