ISLAMABAD: The Awami National Party (ANP) has decided to part ways with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) after being served a show-cause notice.
The ANP is disgruntled at the PDM ever since the opposition alliance decided to issue show-cause notices to it and the PPP leadership for seeking support from Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) for securing the coveted position of Senate leader of opposition for PPP’s Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Addressing a press conference, ANP Vice President Ameer Haider Hoti announces to part ways with the PDM, saying that certain political groups have “hijacked” the opposition alliance.
Hoti said that no one has the authority to issue a show-cause notice to the ANP. “Have we sought any explanation over adjustment during Senate elections in Punjab or an alliance between PTI and JUI-F in Larkana,” he asked.
He said that any consultation should have been made during the meeting of the heads of PDM. “We’ve expected from Maulana Fazlur Rehman to intervene in the matter as the head of the PDM but rather he acted on behest of PML-N and JUI-F,” he said.
The opposition alliance has issued a show-cause notice to the PPP and ANP to explain their position over deviating from the PDM’s decision to support the PML-N candidate as the Senate opposition leader.
The party held consultations earlier and decided to break away from the opposition alliance owing to the rise in differences over the past few weeks.
The show-cause notices were issued by PDM General Secretary Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan.
