Another Sikh Sukhdool Singh alias Sukha Duneke living in Canada has been shot dead by unknown men.
Singh’s killing comes at a time when India-Canada relations are perhaps at an all-time low.
Who is Sukhdool Singh?
Sukha was a ‘Category A’ gangster whose name was figured in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) wanted list as the agency intensified its crackdown on Khalistani terrorists.
Hailing from Duneke Kalan village in Punjab’s Moga district, around 15-16 cases are registered against him. He fled to Canada in December 2017, official sources said. Duneke was reportedly aiding, funding, and strengthening the Devinder Bambiha gang in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.
“He was also inclined towards the pro-Khalistan outfits, but, mostly made calls for extortions and indulges in ‘supari’ killings,” sources claimed.
The Canada-based gangster had at least 18 cases against him including those for murder, attempt to murder, and robbery. “In the last few months, the number of extortion calls made by Duneke had increased considerably in Punjab and neighbouring areas,” sources told news agency PTI
Duneke was closely associated with Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Arsh Dalla, gangster Lucky Patial, Malaysia-based gangster Jackpal Singh alias Lali and other criminals.
after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged in parliament that India had a hand in killing a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil.
Singh, who had fled to Canada from India’s Punjab in 2017, was shot about 15 times. Sukhdool Singh was from Punjab’s Moga district.
What’s behind India-Canada tensions over killing of Sikh separatist leader?
The duelling expulsions come as relations between Canada and India are tense. Both Canada and India have expelled one senior diplomat each from the embassy of the other country. India has also issued a travel advisory for Indians planning to travel to Canada.
