KARACHI: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized a huge haul of drugs with a street value of more than Rs1 billion from a fishing boat during a raid on an island off Karachi’s coast.
According to sources, a raid was conducted by the agency’s intelligence wing late on Thursday night. On seeing the ANF personnel, suspected smugglers opened fire. However, no casualties were reported.
The smugglers managed to flee the scene, leaving the 426 kilograms of heroin and 57 kilograms of hash behind. The value of the drugs is estimated to be more than Rs1 billion.
Earlier, the Anti-Narcotics Forces in 16 operations carried out against drug trafficking in different parts of the country, seized 1.652 tonnes of drugs while arrested 18 persons on drug charges and impounded 9 vehicles.
According to details, the Narcotics Forces seized 1294 kg morphine 14 kg Heroin, 336.6 kg Hashish, 4.8 kg Opium and 2.650 kg of Methamphetamine (ice).
An ANF spokesman informed that the worth of the seized drugs is Rs 1.308 billion in the international market. ANF Rawalpindi Airport Team detained a passenger at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, and recovered 5.4 Kg Heroin concealed in his passenger bag.
