West Indies pacer Anderson Phillip made an immediate impact in the second Test against Australia at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada, by dismissing Sam Konstas, who looked well set on 25.
The 27-year-old Trinidadian, included in the playing XI in place of spinner Jomel Warrican, was brought into the attack as a second-change bowler by Roston Chase and delivered a key breakthrough for his side.
Phillip, who made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka in March 2021, has steadily climbed the ranks within West Indies cricket. He began his first-class career in 2017 representing Trinidad and Tobago and made his List A debut during the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament.
Previously named a reserve for the England Test series in June 2020, Phillip also featured for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League. He eventually earned his Test cap against Bangladesh in 2022.
Heading into the Grenada Test, Phillip had appeared in two Test matches, scoring 53 runs at an average of 26.50, with a highest score of 43, and had taken three wickets. In ODIs, he has played five matches, collecting four wickets and scoring 22 runs.
With a wicket already under his belt in this key Test against Australia, Anderson Phillip will be eager to build on his momentum and stake a stronger claim for a regular spot in the West Indies Test squad.
