The spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, Faizullah Firaaq, stated that all tourists and travelers stranded on the Babusar Highway have been rescued and moved to safe locations, while efforts are underway to locate the missing individuals.
Faizullah Firaaq reported that around 250 tourists who were stranded on the Babusar Highway have been relocated to safe places. The search for the missing persons will continue.
According to eyewitnesses, 10 to 15 people are missing. On the instructions of the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, the search operation will remain active until the missing individuals are found. He added that local volunteers, police, district administration, and the Pakistan Army participated in the rescue operation.
According to the spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, free accommodation has been arranged for tourists in Chilas, and assessments of damages suffered by the local population are also being conducted. He noted that the search operation faces challenges due to darkness at night, so operations are halted and resumed in the morning.
Faizullah Firaaq said that all tourists seen in the footage of stranded vehicles are safe. In the Astore district’s Bollen area, flash floods caused destruction, resulting in the death of one woman. Tourists trapped in Deosai have also been rescued. Relief operations are ongoing in Diamer Thor, and administrative teams are engaged in relief efforts in the Ghizer district as well.
