Aishwarya Rai, daughter test positive for coronavirus

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachan and her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan have tested positive for the novel coronavirus today (Sunday).

The news comes a day after Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek confirmed that they have contracted COVID-19. Actor Jaya Bachchan has tested negative but will be tested again later to overrule any negative reporting.

The entire family was tested after Amitabh Bachchan developed mild symptoms of the deadly virus. After this, the mother-daughter duo was declared positive while the remaining reports will be released tomorrow.

According to an Indian newspaper, Additional commissioner Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Suresh Kakani said, “Total 16 people from the family have been tested, including guards and maids. Other reports will come tomorrow.”

He further said, “As Aishwarya and Aaradhya are both asymptomatic, BMC will take a written declaration from them if they want to take treatment at home. Or else, they will also be shifted to hospital.”  

Earlier, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar said, “BMC has carried sanitisation of Amitabh’s residence today morning, and it has been declared as containment zone starting today. No-one will be allowed to enter or exit from the house. Mumbai Police has also done barricading there. Only supply for essential items will be allowed.”

Earlier on Saturday, Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan said they had tested positive for the virus and were admitted to Nanavati hospital with mild symptoms. Hospital authorities informed that Amitabh’s condition was stable.
