Veteran tennis stars Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan achieved a historic milestone for Pakistan by securing gold in the men’s 45+ doubles category at the ITF Masters World Championship in Manavgat, Turkey.
Qureshi further added to his accolades by winning gold in the 40+ mixed doubles category alongside his French partner, Magali Girard. The duo triumphed over Germany’s Katharina Rath and Andreas Theussen in a thrilling final, clinching victory with a 7-5, 6-3 scoreline.
Despite trailing 2-5 in the opening set, Qureshi and Girard mounted an impressive comeback, winning five consecutive games to take the set. They maintained their momentum in the second set, showcasing dominant net play and consistency to seal the win.
Expressing his joy, Qureshi said, “I am truly happy with this victory. I thank God for giving me the strength to win another gold for Pakistan.”
He dedicated the triumph to the people of Pakistan, calling it a special gift ahead of Pakistan Day on March 23. “Seeing the national flag rise on the global stage fills my heart with pride,” he added.
