Banning TikTok has become new norm in Pakistan. The government recently banned the TikTok app over ‘violative content’.
This is not the first time government has banned the Chinese-owned video sharing app. Last October, the PTA blocked TikTok for similar reasons, but after 10 days it reversed its decision. Since then, it’s been a roller coaster ride for the TikTok app.
Now, a Chinese company released another app called Snack Video in Pakistan. Now the question is just like TikTok, will Snack Video also get banned?
If it’s put in a way that Snack Video is another app just to fill the TikTok-sized void in the country; the statement would not be wrong at many points.
Since TikTok being temporarily banned in Pakistan, Snack Video emerged to cater to consumer’s addiction of TikTok as it almost provides a similar interface and several tools to create short-form remix videos.
What is TikTok?
TikTok is a Chinese-based social media platform for creating, sharing, and discovering short videos. The app is mostly used among young people to express themselves through singing, dancing, comedy, and lip-syncing. It also allows users to create videos and share them across a community.
Can you earn through TikTok?
People earn through the TikTok app, once a user has a tremendous following, it becomes easy to earn. The most obvious way is by influencer marketing.
Why TikTok is popular?
The reason why TikTok is so dominant is because of the prevalence of trends, such as dance challenges for popular songs or videos aligned with popular in-app filters. TikTok users can create a variety of videos ranging from challenges, dance videos, magic tricks, and funny videos.
Banning culture in Pakistan
TikTok was first blocked in Pakistan in October 2020 over its ‘obscene and immoral’ content. The ban was, however, reversed after 10 days.
Second time in March 2021 based on a petition alleging the app had obscene content.
Now, the video-sharing app has been banned once again in Pakistan on the orders of the Sindh High Court over ‘objectionable content’.
Apart from banning ‘TikTok; in Pakistan, Snack Video was introduced earlier this year in January by a Chinese company which later started gaining popularity among the youngsters, well not the same as TikTok but yes now people are aware of the app that it exists.
What is Snack Video?
Snack Video is the second most popular short video-making application after TikTok. It is a social network that enables users to create and watch a collection of short videos that they can share with other users.
Are TikTok and Snack Video similar?
Let’s have a comparison; both are free of cost can be easily downloaded on both Apple and Android. The rating of Snack Video is surprisingly more than TikTok i.e. is 4.5, on another hand, TikTok’s rating is 4.4.
Fun fact, both Snake Video and TikTok are from China. Users can earn from both TikTok and Snack Video.
Snack Video users can post videos up to 57 seconds long, compared to TikTok’s 60 seconds. Like TikTok users, Snack Video users can add friends from their phone books or other social media apps like Twitter also as start group chats.
It also uses a content recommendation algorithm that shows users videos almost like those they need to interact with, another feature TikTok is understood for.
Is Snack Video the next target of PTA?
Meanwhile, in the midst of the popularity of short video platforms like TikTok and Snack Video, both are also quite controversial. Now let’s hope just like TikTok, SNack Video does not get banned in Pakistan.
