Actor Adnan Siddiqui corrected Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra for calling Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy a South Asian director instead of a Pakistani.
It all started when the Indian actress congratulated Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy as the first South Asian director for the upcoming Star Wars film in a tweet.
The Pakistani actor then reminded the Indian actress that the first female to direct Star Wars is a Pakistani. In a tweet, Siddiqui pointed out that Obaid-Chinoy is first and foremost a Pakistani and sarcastically advised Chopra should ‘brush up’ on her knowledge.
With due respect, @priyankachopra . Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is a Pakistani first just to brush up your knowledge. Much like the way you flaunt your Indian nationality whenever you get the opportunity before claiming to be a South Asian.🙏🏽 pic.twitter.com/B7wy8gD8QB

He also drew a comparison to the way Chopra often emphasizes her Indian nationality and how she is calling Chinoy a South Asian instead of Pakistani. His tweet was praised by many social media users for highlighting the importance of acknowledging and respecting cultural identities.
