Pakistani actor Nauman Ijaz does not shy away from sharing his opinions on various matters, even though he sometimes receives flak for his remarks. As luck would have it, his recent criticism of the rising prices of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid ul Adha created quite a stir on social media.
Taking to Instagram, the Sang-e-Mah actor expressed concern over the increasing costs of sacrificial animals. However, his comparison of animal prices to that of an iPhone did not sit well with many netizens.
In a story shared on Instagram, Nauman Ijaz wrote, “Everyone thinks the iPhone is expensive, but when you go to buy a sacrificial animal, you find that traders are asking for property papers.”
His comments, equating the price of sacrificial animals to that of an iPhone, sparked significant backlash. Many social media users criticized him for comparing a religious obligation to a luxury item, arguing that Qurbani is Wajib (a mandatory act), whereas purchasing an iPhone is a personal choice.
One user mocked Nauman Ijaz’s statement, writing, “If you want an animal according to your standards, this is what will happen.”
Another added, “If you can’t afford it, then don’t sacrifice.”
Some users pointed out that people willingly spend large amounts on gadgets but complain about the cost of fulfilling a religious duty. Others defended his remarks, stating that the rising prices of sacrificial animals are indeed a legitimate concern.
